In emergency preparedness, a 72 hour kit is widely considered the first step in becoming prepared. It should be sitting in an area close to the front door, in the car or by your desk so it can be grabbed in a moment’s notice, should you have to depart with little or no warning. There is no rule that say disasters must strike on a hot sunny day. They strike without warning in any season, day or night.

Those who haven't experienced a disaster suffer from optimism bias. They think disasters ‘never happened.’ But not experiencing doesn't mean won't ever experience. 72 hour kits in your car, home and work are critical for the unexpected. When the time to act (or react in my experience) comes, the ability to prepare is over.
